your home and loved ones. Educating yourself about fire safety is just as important as pro-actively protecting

you educated about fire safety in your home. Take a minute to view the fire facts and the precautions
that should be taken in your home.
Children Playing With Fire
Children playing with fire cause hundreds of deaths and
thousands of injuries each year. Preschoolers are most likely to start these
fires, typically by playing with matches and lighters.
Cooking Safety
Cooking fires are the #1 cause of home fires and home
fire injuries. Most cooking equipment fires start with the ignition of common
household items (e.g., food or grease, cabinets, wall coverings, paper or
plastic bags, curtains, etc.).
Heating
Heating equipment is a leading cause of home fires during
the months of December, January and February, and trails only cooking equipment
in home fires year-round.
Candle Safety
Remember that a candle is an open flame. It can easily
ignite any combustible nearby.
Christmas Tree Fire Safety
Carefully decorating Christmas trees can help make your holidays safer. Nearly half of every home Christmas tree fires are caused by an electrical problem or malfunction. One in four (24%) home Christmas tree fires resulted from a heat source placed too close to the tree. Remember, a small fire that spreads to a Christmas tree can very quickly become large.
